What are the vertex and x-intercepts of the graph of the function below? y = (x + 4) (x - 2)

    Y = (x + 4) (x - 2)

    The x-intercepts:

    0 = x + 4

    0 = x - 2

    x = - 4

    x = 2

    The vertex:

    y = (x + 4) (x - 2)

    y = x^2 + 2x - 8

    x = - b/2a

    If ax^2 + bx + c, then:

    a = 1

    b = 2

    c - 8

    x - 2/2 (1)

    x = - 1

    y = (-1) ^2 + 2 (-1) - 8

    y = - 9

    The vertex is (-1, - 9)

    The x-intercepts are - 4 and 2
