The square of a number plus 3 times the number is equal to four. What is the number.

    X^2+3x=4

    x^2+3x-4=0

    From here you probably know how to solve but I'm going to solve it.

    x^2-4x+x-4=0

    x (x-4) + 1 (x-4) = 0

    (x+1) (x-4) = 0

    x=-1,4
