Common denominator is 24. 3/12 x 2 is 6/24
3/8 x 3 is 9/24 therefore 3/8 is larger

24 is the common denominator between 8 and 12
if you multiply 8 by 3 you get 24
if you multiply 12 by 2 you get 24
