Distance to the farm is 24 miles

    Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Let the speed of Peggy be x mph. Then the speed of Mike is x + 36 mph. Find the equation of distance for Mike and Peggy to the farm.

Time taken by Mike = 0.5 hr

Time taken by Peggy = 2 hrs

Distance is calculated by the equation Distance = Speed * Time

    Distance traveled by Mike = (x + 36) * 0.5

    Distance traveled by Peggy = x * 2

Step 2: Equate the 2 distances of Mike and Peggy as they are the same and find x.

    (x + 36) * 0.5 = 2x

    0.5x + 18 = 2x

    1.5 x = 18

    ⇒ x = 18/1.5 = 12 mph

Step 3: Find the distance to the farm.

    Distance to the farm = 2x = 24 miles
