Translate into an algebraic expressions: A number increased by 100% and decreased by 20% is x. What is the number?

    y is increased by 100 percent, which can be denoted by y (2), and then decreased by 20 percent, which will further make it y (2) (.8). So the number is 1.6y. Really, you can use any variable, and if you multiply it by 1.6 you will get x
