    M = 22.1 lbm, the mass

    v = 8.3 mi/h, the speed

    Note that

    1 mi/h = (5280 ft/mi) * (1/3600 h/s) = 1.4667 ft/s

    Therefore

    v = 8.3*1.4667 = 12.1736 ft/s

    By definition, the KE (kinetic energy) is

    KE = (1/2) * m*v²

    = 0.5 * (22.1 lbm) * (12.1736 ft/s) ²

    = 1637.57 lb-ft

    Because 1 lb-ft = 1.35582 J, the KE is

    KE = 1637.57*1.35582 = 2220.3 J

    Answer: 2220.3 J
