There are 60 minutes in 1 hour

→ as a fraction of an hour 15 minutes is 15/60 hour = 1/4 hour

    one quarter

    15/60 = 3/12 = 1/4

First calculate how many minutes have passed. 45-40 = 15. Then divide that by the minutes in an hour: 15/60, then reduce to lowest terms 1/4
