On Friday 2/5 of the students wore blue shirts and 5/12 wore white shirts. What fraction of students wore either a blue shirt or a white shirt

    2/5=24/60 because you have to make the denominators the same in order to do the problem. Which means ... 5/12=25/60 Afterwards just add them together. 24/60 + 25/60 which equals 49/60. You can't simplify so the answer is 49/60 students.
