    Let x = the length of each side of the square.

    Therefore the dimensions of the rectangle are x and x/2.

    Because the perimeter of the rectangle is 15 inches, therefore

    2x + 2 (x/2) = 15

    2x + x = 15

    3x = 15

    x = 5 in.

    The perimeter of the square scarf is 4x = 4*3 = 12 in.

    The area of the scarf is 3*3 = 9 in²

    Answer:

    Perimeter = 12 in

    Area = 9 in²
