Round 498 to the hundreds place making it 500. Then round the twelve to a 10 because you have to follow the rule that if the digit you are rounding is below five you go back if it is above five you round to the next place. The problem would then become 500/10 which is equal to 50

12 is approximately 10
500/10 = 50
So, 498/12 is approximately 50.
