The number of fish caught on a fishing trip varies directly as the number of boats that are fishing. There are 600 fish caught when 15 boats are fishing.

How many fish will be caught if 7 boats are fishing?

    First you have to find the number of fish per boat.

    600 divided by 15 is 40.

    then you multiply 40 by 7 to find how many fish for 7 boats.

    40 x 7 = 280.

    280 fish if they use 7 boats.
