The launch site for trigon balloon co. is 250 ft above sea level. A hot air balloon is launched from the site and begins to rise at a rate of 110 ft/min. At the same time, another balloon 2200 ft above sea level begins to descend at a rate of 150 ft/min. A. How long will it be unit the balloons are at the same elevation? B. What will their elevation be then?

    Set up the equations as equal:

    110x+250=-150x+2200

    Add 150x to both sides:

    260x+250=2200

    Subtract 250 from both sides.

    260x=1950

    Divide both sides by 260.

    x=7.5

    A: They will meet at 7.5 minutes after launch

    Plug in 7.5:

    110 (7.5) + 250=11*75+250=825+250=1075

    B: They will meet at 1075 feet
