Currently, at week 0, Josie has $13. For every week that passes by, an additional $7 is added to the savings. For the week 3, a span of three weeks have passed, thus Josie save $21. Thus for week 3, the total savings is 34 (that is $13 + $21). And so on. Thus we see a pattern:

    $13 + ($7 * number of weeks) = Total amount of money

Let y = number of weeks and x = total amount of money,

    13 + 7y = x

This could be rearranged by transposing. Thus, the answer is, x-7y=13
