    This would be a ratio:

    4 foot tall elephant / 6 foot shadow = X tall man / 9 foot shadow

    4/6 = X/9

    cross multiply:

    4x9 = 36

    36 = 6x

    divide both sides by 6

    x = 36 / 6

    x = 6

    the man is 6 feet tall
