    Answer: x = 1

    Step-by-step explanation:

    we have

    x tetras

    3 goldfish

    5 platies.

    the total number of fishh in the bowl is x + 3 + 5

    The probability of removing a gold fish is equal to the number of gold fish divided by the total number of fish, this is:

    p = 3 / (x + 3 + 5) = 1/3

    3 = (1/3) (x + 3 + 5) = x/3 + 1 + 5/3

    9 = x + 3 + 5

    x = 9 - 8 = 1

    then wemust have that x = 1

    because 1 + 3 + 5 = 9

    and 3/9 = 1/3
