The temp. at 6:00 am was - 7 degrees and by noon, the temp had increased by 8 degrees. What was the temp. at noon?

    I find that when you need to add a negative number and a positive number, you subtract instead! Watch:

    7 - 8 = - 1

    Now all you do is switch - 1 to 1.

    So 1 is your answer.
