A bike tire has a diameter of 27 inches. What distance is covered in 10 rotations of the tire? Round to the nearest tenth.

    For each rotation of the tire, the wheel axle moves forward by a distance equal to the circumference of the tire.

    Here, that circumference is C = pi*d, where d is the wheel diameter:

    C = pi (27 in) = 27 pi inches.

    The distance covered in 10 rotations of the wheel is thus 10 (27 pi inches) = 270 pi inches. To the nearest tenth, that's 848.2 inches.
