    Make x=0 and solve the first problem. plug in the answer of y into the next problem to find x. check your work by plugging the x and y in both equations. both equations should end 0=0 if you check your work and you got the right answer

    To the beginning, we know y+3=x

    then, substitute x into y

    =>3 (y+3) + 4y=16

    then, to solve y

    7y=16-9

    y=1

    so, x=y+3=4
