    -3x^2 + 5x + 12 = 0

    -3*12 = - 36

    Now 9 * - 4 = - 36 and 9 - 4 = + 5 so we write:-

    -3x^2 + 9x - 4x + 12 = 0

    -3x (x - 3) - 4 (x - 3) = 0

    (x - 3) is common so we have the answer which is:-

    (-3x - 4) (x - 3) = 0

    - (3^2x-5x-12) = 0

    - (3x+4) (x-3) = 0

    x = 4/3 & x = - 3
