    6 (x+3) = 12x-12

    The sum of a number and 3 becomes x+3. 6 times the sum becomes 6 (X+3)

    12 times the number becomes 12x

    "Is 12 less than) becomes - 12

    Distribute the 6 to get 6x+18=12x-12

    Subtract 6x from both sides to combine the like terms

    18=6x-12

    Add 12 to both sides

    30=6x

    Divide both sides by 6

    5=x
