A store buys shoes from the manufacturer at $50 per pair. The markup for the shoes is 12 percent. Suppose you want to buy these shoes. How much will you pay for them?

    56$. What you do is: 50X1.12 because 12% is 0.12 and since they mark it up you are really paying 100%+12% (112%=1.12).
