5 added to y as 5 + y and 5 subtracted from y as 5-y why is the first expression correct but the second one is incorrect

    because 5 subtracted from y means that its y-5 instead of 5-y

    The first is correct cause when you add it doesn't matter the order. But when your subtracting it matters. The proper expression is y-5 or - 5+y.
