Who knows what procedure the question is referring to ... You can take advantage of the distributive property of multiplication to compute the product:

715 * 211 = 715 * (200 + 10 + 1) = 715 * 200 + 715 * 10 + 715 * 1

Computing the remaining products is trivial.

715 * 200 = 2 * 715 * 100 = 1430 * 100 = 143,000

715 * 10 = 7150

715 * 1 = 715

Then

715 * 211 = 143,000 + 7150 + 715 = 150,865
