    Since "t" represents the number of hours, and "-250" is being multiplied to "t', this means that 250 gallons are being pumped out each hour.

    To find the amount of water left in the pool after 11 hours, replace" t" with 11:

    W=9000-250 (11)

    W=6250 gallons of water

    Since the equation has a constant of "9000", this represents the starting amount of water.

    Draining the pool means that the amount of water is zero, so set the equation equal to zero and solve for "t".

    0=9000-250t

    250t=9000

    t=36 hours to empty the pool
