    5x+3x = 8x

    Now you have

    8x-4=8

    Next you add 4 both sides

    8x-4=8

    +4 + 4

    =12

    And - 4 + 4 cancels each other out so it's gone and then bring your 12 down to have

    8x=12

    Now divide 8x by 8 and 12 divided 8

    8x / 8 = x

    12 / 8 = 1 4/8

    Your answer is x equals 1 whole and four eights

    x = 1 4/8
