    Equation A: 14x+2y=296

    Equation B: 4v+12y=736

    From B: y = (736-4x) / 12

    Substitute y to Equation A:

    14x+2[ (736-4x) / 12]=296

    14x + (1472/12) - (8x/12) = 296

    14x - (8x/12) = 296 - (1472/12)

    (168x-8x) / 12 = (3552-1472) / 12

    x=2080/160

    x=13 students van can carry

    y=[736-4 (13) ]/12

    y=57 students bus can carry
