    That's simply a definition ... "Right" is the name we give to an angle of 90 degrees.

    It's no more mysterious than "Yards measure 36 inches.".

    This is a definition, Because it is proven that each angle is 90 degrees. For example, the sum of the interior angles of a square is 360 degrees, and each angle is what gives 90 degrees.
