    Let the second angle = X

    The first angle = 2X+42 (42 more than 2 times the second angle)

    Now you have 2x+42 + x = 90 (first angle + second angle = 90)

    2x + x = 3x

    Now you have:

    3x + 42 = 90

    Subtract 42 from both sides:

    3x = 48

    Divide both sides by 3:

    x = 48/3

    x = 16

    The second angle = 16 degrees.

    The first angle = 2 (16) + 42 = 32+42 = 74 degrees
