The formula for the hydraulic jump is

    y2/y1 = (1/2) (√ (1 + Fr²) - 1)

y2 is the height of higher elevation

y1 is the height of liquid with lower elevation

A hydraulic jump overs when a liquid of higher velocity encounters a liquid with lower velocity. This occurs in spillways and open channels.
