Gold has a density of 19.35 g/cm^3. Jacob wants to verify that a shiny yellow substance is in fact gold. Jacob places the metal into 100ml of mater. The water level rises by 15ml when the material is placed in it. How much should the mass of the metallic substance be if it is actually gold? (1ml=1cm^3)

    290.25 g

    Explanation:

    Density of an object is defined as the mass per unit volume of a substance and expressed as d=m/v

    Making m the subject of the formula then

    m=dv

    Where d is the density, m is the mass of the metallic substance and v is volume

    The volume is given as 15ml which is equivalent to 15cm³ since 1ml is equal to 1cm³

    Substituting d with 19.35 g/cm³ and taking v as 15cm³ then

    m=19.35*15=290.25 g

    The mass is 290.25g
