two wires a and b have equal lengths and are made of same material. If the diameter of wire A is twice that of wire B, which has the greater extension for a given load?

    Since both the wire are of same material.

    Therefore, R is directly proportional to length and inversely proportional to area of the wire.

    Now, Since the wire B has half the diameter of A, its area will be 1/4th of A.

    Hence the ratio of resistance R will be 2:1
