What is the potential energy of a 1.0 kg mass 1.0 m above the ground?

    m = mass for which potential energy is to be calculated = 1.0 kg

    h = height of the mass above the ground = 1.0 m

    g = acceleration due to gravity acting on the mass = 9.8 m/s²

    gravitational potential energy of the mass is given as /

    Potential energy = mass x acceleration due to gravity x height

    PE = m g h

    inserting the above values in the equation

    PE = (1.0) (9.8) (1.0)

    PE = (9.8) (1.0)

    PE = 9.8 Joules

    hence the potential energy of the mass comes out to be 9.8 Joules
