    The average speed of a person is calculated by dividing the total distance traveled by the total time. For the interval between 0.75 hour and 1 hour which is equal to 0.25 hour, she traveled,

    d = 4.75 miles - 3.50 miles = 1.25 miles

    Dividing this by the total time,

    s = 1.25 miles / 0.25 hour = 5 mph
