At 1000°C and a pressure of 1200 mm Hg, a sample of methane occupies 20.0 L. What will be it's temperature if it is compressed to a volume of 4.00 L and a pressure of 3600 mm Hg?

    Ideal gas law:

    PV = nRT

    If n is constant:

    PV / T = PV / T

    (1200 mmHg) (20.0 L) / (1273 K) = (3600 mmHg) (4.00 L) / T

    T = 764 K

    T = 491°C
