A 300kg motorboat is turned off as it approaches a dock and coasts towards it at. 5 m/s. Isaac, whose mass is 62 kg jumps off the front of the boat with a speed of 3m/s relative to the boat. what is the velocity of the boat after Isaac jumps?

    Momentum is conserved

    Momentum = mass*velocity

    momentum before docking = 300*0.5=150

    momentum after isaac jumps = 150, mass of boat after he jumps = 300-62=238 kg

    150 = (62*3) + (238*velocity)

    velocity = 0.151 m/s in the opposite direction to the movement of isaac
