A flask of water rests on a scale that reads 100N. Then, a small block of unknown material is held completely submerged in the water.

The block does not touch any part of the flask, and the person holding the block will not tell you whether the block is being pulled up (keeping it from falling further) or pushed down (keeping it from bobbing back up).

What is the new reading on the scale?

A) greater than 100N

B) 100N

C) less than 100N

D) impossible to determine

    A) greater than 100N

    Explanation:

    Given that

    Scale reading = 100 N

    As we know that when block submerged in the water then a upward force will act and this upward force is know as Buoyant force. Due to to this Buoyant force the reading on the scale will increase.

    We know that Buoyant force Fb

    Fb = ρ. V. g

    ρ=Density of liquid

    V=Displace volume by block

    g=10 m/s²

    So the answer is a.

    A) greater than 100 N
