The layer in the atmosphere that protects the Earth from ultraviolet radiation is the atmosphere. The main chemical that is responsible for this is the ozone. About 90% of the ozone in the atmosphere is concentrated in the stratosphere. Ozone reacts with the ultraviolet light by not letting it pass through further inside the Earth. All of these are due to the property of the ozone being a reactive oxidant. Without ozone, the harmful UV light, like UV-C and UV-B, will cause skin cancer, damage to the eyes and damage to plants. It is basically the atmosphere that allows life to occur in our planet.
