A gnat takes off from one end of a pencil and flies around erratically for 18.6 seconds before landing on the other end of the same pencil. If the gnat flew a total distance of 7.15 meters, and the pencil is 6.13 cm long, find the gnat's average speed, as well as the magnitude of the gnat's average velocity vector.

    Total distance traveled = 7.15 m and time = 18.6 s

    average speed = 7.15/18.6 = 0. 3844 m / s = 38.44 cm / s

    Total displacement = 6.13 cm, time = 18.6 s

    Average velocity = 6.13/18.6 = 0.3295 cm/s = 3.295 mm / s.
