    Scientific notation is used to demonstrate extremely large or small numbers. It does this by multiplying a form of the number by a power of 10. you usually will take the first digit and set it in the ones place, then everything follows in the decimal places. Multiply by the power of ten that gets it back to its original form, and you have scientific notation.
