In what ways can force affect motion?

    Well,

    Force can initiate motion, as an outside force acting upon a brick to get the brick skidding across the sidewalk.

    Force can impede or even halt motion, as friction acting upon the brick to (eventually) bring it to a halt.

    Force is the only thing that can change the speed or direction of motion.
