Which best describes the energy of a sound wave as it travels through a medium?

    "It decreases."

    The energy in the sound waves is related to oscillation/vibration in the medium it is crossing. As the sound waves enter into contact with the matter, whether gases, liquids, or even solids, the energy from such oscillation, resultant from sound waves, starts to disperse into kinetic energy in the medium that's being travelled.
