What occurs when someone places an ice pack on an injured ankle?

Conduction causes the ice pack to lose thermal energy.

Cold from the ice pack is transferred to the ankle.

    As a rule heat always flows from a hot object to a cold object so Heat will be transferred from the Ankle to the ice pack.
