A block with a volume of 12 cm3 has a density of 3 g/cm3. The block is cut into two pieces. One piece has a volume of 8 cm3, and the other piece has a volume of 4 cm3. What are the densities of the two pieces?

    If the block is cut into pieces of different size, then the density of the larger piece is 3 g/cm^3, whereas the density of the smaller piece is only 3 g/cm^3.

    Density doesn't change whn you cut something into pieces. Imagine a gallon of water poured into pint glasses, the water always has a density of 1kg/m^3
