The man appears to approach from the East, getting closer to the bus and then retreat in the distance towards the West. This question is about perspective. Conversely, the man standing on the curb, if he is able to physically able to he sees the man on bus or at the very least, he sees the bus approaching from the West, get closer and then retreat and move farther to the East
