Cavity dimensions or thickness of the cavity material 'g' should be as small as possible in comparision to charge particles that strike the cavity in order to prevent any disturbance in the charged particle field. The total energy or the absorbed dose of the cavity material 'g' inside the cavity is completely deposited by the charged particle crossing their paths.

Such a chamber can be used for the purpose of calculation and measurement of the absorbed ionizing radiation dose inside the chamber. Basically, ionization chambers are used as detectors for X-ray absorption spectroscopy.
