In may 1998 forest fires in southern mexico and guatemala spread smoke all the way to austin. those fires consumed forest land at a rate of 29,000 acres/week. on the average how many square meters of forest were burned every minute? an acre is 4047m^2. (don't round)

    29,000 acres * 4047^2 = 117,363,000 m^2

    Now to find the burn rate in minutes, we must find how many minutes there are in a week.

    7 * 24 = 168 (hours)

    168 * 60 = 10,080 (Minutes)

    117,363,000 / 10,080 = 11,643

    About 11,643m^2 of forest were burned every minute.
