A stone thrown horizontally at a speed of 5m/s from the top of a cliff 78.4m high.

A. How long does it take the stone to reach the bottom of the cliff?

B. How far from the base of the cliff does the stone strike the ground?

    A) t=?

    h = v1 (y direction) * t + 1/2 g*tt

    78.4=0 * t + 1/2*9.8*tt

    78.4 = 0 + 4.9 tt

    tt=t (squqre) = 78.4/4.9 = 16

    so t = sqrt16 = 4 sec. the time needed to hit the ground.

    B) how far = x = ?

    x = v (horizontal) * t = 5*4 = 20 m.
