A 0.500-kg potato is fired at an angle of 80.0° above the horizontal from a PVC pipe used as a "potato gun" and reaches a height of 110.0 m. (a) Neglecting air resistance, calculate the potato's velocity when it leaves the gun. (b) The gun itself is a tube 0.450 m long. Calculate the average acceleration of the potato in the tube as it goes from zero to the velocity found in (a). (c) What is the average force on the potato in the gun?

    a) Maximum height H = 110 m

    Formula for maximum height in a projectile

    = u² / 2g where u is initial velocity

    110 = u² / 2g

    u² = 110 x 2g

    u = 46,43 m / s

    b)

    v² = u² + 2as

    v = 46.43

    u = 0

    s =.45 m

    a = acceleration

    46.43² = 2 x a x. 45

    a = 2395 m/s²

    c) Average force

    = mass x acceleration

    .5 x 2395

    = 1197.5 N.
