    Larry's potential energy when he jump from the airplane = 784507.54 J

    Explanation:

    Potential Energy: This is the energy possessed by a person by virtue of it position. The S. I unit of Energy is Joules. Mathematically it is represented as,

    Ep = mgh ... Equation 1

    m = Ep/gh ... Equation 2

    Where Ep = potential energy, m = mass of the body, g = acceleration due to gravity, h = height.

    constant: g = 9.8 m/s²

    When he sits 2.20 m above the ground,

    Ep = 1870 J

    m = 1870 / (2.2*9.8)

    m = 86.73 kg.

    When he begins to jump from the airplane,

    h = 923 m, g = 9.8 m/s² and m = 86.73 kg

    Substituting these values into equation 1

    Ep = 923*9.8*86.73

    Ep = 784507.54 J

    Therefore Larry's potential energy when he jump from the airplane = 784507.54 J
