The term Geothermal is made up of two words i. e. Geo (earth) and thermal (heat). It is the heat that is generated on the surface of the earth.
Its uses/application are:
(i) It is used to produce electricity. Water is heated and it is moved through a steam turbine. The turbine converts heat energy to electricity with a generator. This phenomenon is called electromagnetic induction.
(ii) It is also used to make heat pumps. The purpose of the heat pump is to measure or control building temperatures above the ground surface.
